Tourism Min. celebrates picking Egypt among fastest growing destinations

“Congratulations Egypt for being one of the world’s fastest-growing destination by the World Tourism Organization and for continuing to be travelers’ top choice in 2019 and 2020,” Mashat tweeted.

Egypt was chosen by Lexie Alford, the youngest traveler to visit all of the world’s 196 countries at the age of 21, breaking a Guinness World Record.

“After traveling to every country in the world, Egypt is one of the countries that I would consider one of the most underrated,” the article said. “Egypt harbors such immense, well-preserved history and a unique culture that can only be discovered in this forgotten corner of North Africa.

“The country is finally beginning to receive the recognition it deserves after being named the world’s fastest-growing travel destination by the World Tourism Organization.”

Forbes also mentioned the 2020 opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum—the largest archaeological museum in the world—that will open to the public and the exhibits will include thousands of ancient Egyptian artifacts that have never been seen before.

In November, Mashat said Egypt earned over $12.5 billion in the 2018-19 fiscal year, as the North African country aims to restore its tourism glory that reached its peak in 2010.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Mashat said that the earnings in this fiscal year has been the highest ever in Egypt's history concerning the tourism sector.

“Today’s travelers are looking for experience, they’re looking for diversity of offer and they’re looking for being part of the local community,” Mashat said.
