Memphis, once the ancient capitol of Lower Egypt. It had centuries of great splendor culminating in the VIth dynasty when it was the center of Ptah. Memphis during the old days was the site where ancient Egyptian chariots were manufactured. That was the main industry in the Egyptian war assembly. In the heart of Memphis their was a citadel with white walls, started by Imhotep. People of all nations and every creed must have lived and worked at one point or another in this city.

Now the town of Memphis, Egypt has several ruins, truncated columns, and heavy chunks of stone. With the rise of progression of the city of Alexandria, Memphis was neglected and started to fall behind slowly. In the 19th century remains of temple built in honor of Seti I was discovered. In front of that temple several massive statues of Ramses II of which only two are left standing. One of them is in red granite stone, and the second is lying on the ground in front of that Seti temple. 42-feet long, bearing the name of the Pharaoh, his name is engraved on a cartouche. a few hundred feet from the statue of Ramses II, we find a Sphinx dating to the period of Amon Ofis the second, carved from a single piece of stone, like the Sphinx in the Giza plateau.

This Sphinx is carved from a single block of alabaster, it weights roughly 82-tons, and used to guard the temple entry. Memphis was the capital of the Ancient Kingdom, and was among the cities of greatest importance in the history of Ancient Egypt.
